A Better World

HUMANISTS BELIEVE THIS IS THE ONLY LIFE WE GET, AND THE ONLY WORLD WE HAVE. IT IS UP TO ALL OF US TO MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE THERE IS NO ONE ELSE TO DO IT.

We take it upon ourselves to do small things at every meeting to make the world a more humane and livable place. Below are some of the things we have been doing.

Monthly Food Bank Donations

At every meeting we collect for the Barrie Food Bank. Bring your non-perishable items to the meetings each month.

Stack of Books (Plan Canada)

Since 2010 we have been collecting to buy educational materials through Plan Canada for schools in the developing world. Every Sept-Dec we collect to buy educational resources.

Uganda Kasese School

Ugunda is the most striking example of anti-Humanistic ideas being spread through people and donations from Western Europe and North America. But recently information about the Humanist school in Ugunda has been making the news. Through Humanist Canada you can make a tax-deductable charitble donation to help support and expand this one of a kind school in Ugunda.

Micro-Loans

From January through June we will be continuing to collect for our Kiva micro-loan donations. To date we have leaned out $100 in loans and have had half of them already repaid. Click here to see COHA’s loan history below:

Mahalaxmi B Group

India: Our loan helps self-employed weavers so they can purchase yarn in bulk, increase production and not have periods of no production while they sell off inventory. This loan will make them more self-sufficient and increase their revenue.

Claudia Lorena

Gotera, El Salvador: Our loan helps Claudia Lorena’s start-up costs: to buy pigs to butcher and sell the meat and also to supply the snack bar. She will use this to fund her business to grow to be self-sustaining.

Kuña Pyapy Mbarete Group

Curuguaty, Paraguay: Noelia is one of the group members. She breeds and sells barnyard animals, such as chickens, ducks and others. They are using the load to pay for the startup feed costs.
