The Significance of the Christian Apocrypha for Recovering Early Christian History
Dr. Tony Chartrand-Burke, a Professor of Religious Studies from York University, will be joining us to discuss recent findings in Christian Apocrypha, or so-called “Lost Gospels” such as the Gospel of Judas and the Gospel of Thomas. These texts have stirred up much controversy in the popular media, resulting in a backlash from conservative Christians. Tony will discuss the value of these texts for the study of Early Christianity and comment on the motives behind both the positive and negative assessments of the texts in contemporary debate.
